you raised some good issues, just to add somethign to the mix i have been suggesting for years now that one of the ways to solve the problem could be to change things around slighly and make pagent on the tuesday and parade of hte bands over two days. let me explain how i see this working
on the monday mas can start ate around 1 in the evening and the bands will proceed along the laggoon road and be judged at two judging points one by tropicana and the other by regal cinema so the route will go like this along the lagoon road onto the port highway, around the round about through tanteen down by regal cinema and back along the lagoon road.
one of the reasons for this choice of route is to get rid of alot of what causes the problem you talked about earlier about the big trucks coming back along the carenage.
now lets deal with that issue itself before moving on.
the reason for those big trucks you are talking about is to cater to the large monday night mas bands more than the mas bands per say.
now the reason why those trucks have to turn around and come back across the carenage is because they have to rush back to get lined up on the lagoon road for monday mas.
so the new route i am suggesting should help get rid of alot of those issues, plus the roads are wide enough.
now to the tuesday mas bands should be able to start from the port highway make their way across the carenage go over into town proceed along melville street with one judging point along melville st (mas bands that dont want that long a route can start on melvile street)
now once the band pass that judging point they proceed to the stadium to cross the big stage where the pagent judging is taking place. all mas players will be allowed to enter the stadium free of cost all non mas players will be required to pay a minimal fee.
to encourage them to pay this fee the carnival committee will also hold a last lap event in the stadium on that same day so for instance after the last mas band has crossed the stage we can have grenadian and maybe regional soca artist perform while the patrons await the judges decision etc.
this way we can turn the pagent into a financially successful event while at the same time allowing all the patrons who want to sit and watch pretty mas in comfort to get there monies worth.
i also think a big advantage of this would be security issues, lighting and things such as bathroom facilities etc.
more controlled vending to allow the overall product to be developed in a more meaningful way.
the big queen and king costumes that are extremely hard to manouver on the narrower roads will now be able to be properly protrayed along melville street into the stadium
