ST JOHN CARNIVAL RESULTS Once again the St. John’s Social and Cultural Organization (SJSCO) organized and managed Carnival in St. John’s ensuring that activities and competition were held in every dimension. Indeed this year after a break of some 3 – 4 years, the J’ouvert too was judged as villages and individuals responded to the SJSCO call for more Ole Mas. Full Results were as follows:- Lyle Rogers St. John’s Carnival Queen Show: Queen – Ms. Ria Mitchell, representing the Village of Clozier – Sponsored by Greens Auto Supplies 1st Runner Up – Ms. Kennisha Ross, representing the village of Grand Roy – Sponsored by Fantazia 2001 2nd Runner Up – Ms. Tanika Redhead, representing the village of Loretto - Sponsored by SJSCO Six (6) young ladies contested the other three coming from the villages of Central Gouyave Estate, Brothers and Florida. The Hezel ‘Combine’ Ventour St. John’s Soca Monarch was won by Mr. Kennedy Mapp with his popular ‘Bush Bath’. 2009 Monarch, Razor, Brother of Kennedy was plunged into 5th position in a field of fourteen (14). On Saturday and on Sunday preceding Carnival Monday and Tuesday Cuthbert Peters Park was home to colour, drama and fun as eight (8) mas bands participated in the Kiddies Frolic and the Pageant respectively. In the Fancy category at the Kiddies Frolic it was a tough fight between J & A and Associates Nature of the Caribbean and Spices Dancers Sailors Land. Spices Dancers with Sailors Land emerged winner over Nature of the Caribbean and the other two (2) bands – Merle Britton, Delicacies and Winston Sam, What is Carnival. The contest in the traditional category was even more keen as Demonic Angels over came the energetic and powder flinging young Waterloo Short Knee by just two (2) points – 249 to 247. Here too there were four bands with Sacred Angels coming in 3rd and Legends, 4th. On Sunday, however, with the kids joined by the adults, WaterLoo Short Knee turned the tables on Demonic Angels defeating them by more than 2 points. In the Fancy category though Spices Dancers with Sailors Land was able to withstand a huge challenge from Nature of the Caribbean and win again. At the Parade of the Bands on Tuesday it was sweet revenge as Nature of the Caribbean complete with its King and Queen of the Bands and with its dynamic leader, finally broke the strangle hold of Spices Dancers by winning the parade in the Fancy category. Meanwhile, in the traditional category Demonic Angels beat its rival, Waterloo Shortknee, by one point. Condemers from Hell absent from the Kiddies and Pageant came out and did Parade of the Bands bringing the number in the traditional category to five (5). Standing out at the J’ouvert was the Jab Jab from Loretto – Straight to Hell and the Ole Time Days played by Mr. Frank Augustine of Dougladston All in all Carnival 2010 in St. John’s can be described as a success.
