I humbly believe something needs to be done about the ‘legal law breakers’ we have walking around in our society. This to me brings us to another level of white collared crimes. It is just frightening to understand that these ‘law breakers’ are protected with uniforms and in some cases armed with weapons.

Allow me to explain a very unfortunate scenario with you;

On Friday the July 23rd at Victoria Park Grenville, I was doing my job of taking pictures of the Soca Stars on stage and some crowd responses at the Soca Monarch Semi-Finals. I observed on several occasions a few police officers interacting with some revelers in what appears to be them (the police) asking people in the crowd to either stop holding onto the railing or give up all bottled drinks. I thought the officers were doing a great job by ensuring a certain degree of order in the event.

While taking pictures a young man with tears in his eyes called out to me and said that he was only waving a rag and a police officer who had just arrived in that area smacked him to the face. I then looked around and another media colleague said to me yes, "the guy was only waving a rag and the officer stretched over the railing and smacked him to the face.” I then started to slowly walk away as I didn’t want much involvement.

While walking away the same police officer (badge # 944) called out to me -- thinking that he was about to share some light on what may have transpired I walked up to him and gave him a listening ear and he uttered me, “If you take my picture, you won’t have a job in the morning.” Shocked at his utterances I looked at him with disbelief that a Police officer in uniform would make such a threat.

Other media colleagues were in awe when they discover what the officer said.

Truth be told; I wasn’t interested in the officers photo for any reason. I was just going about my business. The young man as I understand it did nothing out of the ordinary to deserve a smack to the face. And if the officer thought to himself that he did something wrong and was caught by the media doing so, going around passing threats is not the best way of handling it. I’ve only seen this stuff in the movies.

There are police officers who work too hard to uphold the integrity of the police force for ‘bandits’ like that to infiltrate the system and cause great grief to the process of law and order.
