Subject: Weefm's Mikey Hutchinson threatened by a Police Officer last night

 
You know sometimes I wonder why some Police Officers react the way they do when a situation arises. Now let me make this very clear, this is not an attack on the RGPF neither the Officer in question.

Now, while at the Soca Monarch Semi-Finals last night at Victorua Grenville, I was changing the batteries in my flash when I heard one of the Grenadian Voice reporters to the left of me shout out "aww yuh en see dat box dat man get?" At the time I thought it was one of the rowdy boys who slapped another because of the mud mass they been playing. However, it turned out that a guy was slapped by one of the Officers on duty infront of the stage for no apparent reason according to the witnesses - Note I said according to witnesses. Anyways, I enquired as to what happened and was told by one of the guys who at the time was trying to get the attention of the Officer in charge, to inform him about his friend being slapped. At the same time Mikey Hutchinson of WeeFM joined in on the conversation while the guy explained to us what happened. No sooner Mikey left the conversation to continue his work he was called by the Officer who alledgedly (I did not see) slapped the guy and was told "if yuh take meh picture, yuh won't have ah job in de morning" well Mikey went into a frenzy because obviously he was just threatened by a Police Officer in uniform for what reason God alone knows. Because to begin with, Mikey never pointed his Camera at him and as a matter of fact, Mikey's Camera was off. Now keep in mind, Mikey did not witness the slapping incident; Like me, he heard of the incident from the other reporters, patrons and the guys friend who witnessed incident.

Mikey in shock, told the Officer "I am going to report you in the morning boy yuh out of place, yuh cannot threaten the media, yuh rude and out of place"......the Officer then started approaching Mikey telling him "who yuh calling boy? yuh could report me, but who yuh calling boy? ah say what ah have to say already" by this time one of the two other Officers who was aware of what the Officer told Mikey, told the Officer to relax. Me being in the middle told Mikey to forget the Officer and made it clear in the Officer's presence that he (the threatening Officer) can say what he wants, deal with the matter in morning by reporting it because you (mikey) have work to do.

Eventually Mikey forgot about the Officer and the Officer in charge came over to the Officer to enquire as to what happened, well the rest I cannot comment on because I did not hear what transpired between the two Officers, but judging from the Junior Officer's reaction, it appears that he was cautioned by his superior Officer.

Now the reason why I am reporting this is because myself, Mikey and the friend of the guy who got slapped was talking about the incident which neither Mikey or myself witnessed, so where or what caused this Officer to threaten Mikey? I'm still at a lost.

I will post the photo and number of the Officer here, but I will let Mikey issue his statement before I do, because this particular Officer seem to be in "heat" last night.

I must give credit to the SSU (tallest of them, don't know his name) he was professional in responding to the matter and so was the Officer in Charge, can't remember his name now. It was disturbing though to over hear an Officer saying to another that "ah tired tell that boy his attitude".
